Welcome!

Welcome to this beautiful and unique 18th century building, which has played a leading role in Christian worship in this town for over 200 years. This is your church. It is open every day. It exists to make the love of God for all humanity a living reality, a love which knows no boundaries. Being a round church, there is a lovely sense of inclusiveness.

We hope that you will feel at home here, and experience that love for yourself. Walk through the building and look around to make yourself familiar with its unusual layout. The plan will assist you and the links below give more information.

St Chad, trained by St Aidan in Lindisfarne monastery on Holy Island, became Bishop of Lichfield in 669. Until his death in 672 he travelled and preached the gospel throughout his large diocese. He was greatly loved for his gentleness and humility and was venerated as a saint.

This parish of St Chad has existed since Saxon times, and it now covers most of the area within the loop of the river and parts of the adjacent residential area. This building was consecrated on 19th August 1792.
