Funerals

The funeral of a loved one acknowledges the closing of a human life on earth. A funeral service is an opportunity for family and friends to gather in a parish church or crematorium to express their grief and give thanks to God for a life that has completed its journey in this world, and to commend the soul of the departed into God’s eternal keeping.

Anyone is entitled to a funeral in either St Chad’s or St Alkmund’s. St Chad’s is especially suitable for funerals expecting large numbers of guests. In addition, our clergy often conduct services at the cemetery or crematorium or memorial services.

In the first instance, please contact your Undertaker, they will be in touch with us on your behalf to begin the funeral arrangements and so that a priest can contact you direct.  You are also welcome to arrange a pastoral visit by contacting Rev Sam via the church office, telephone 01743 365478, option 6.

There is more information about funeral services on the Church of England website; the link is here.
