Baptisms

Baptism

Baptism, sometimes referred to as christening, marks the start of a journey of faith and becoming a member of the worldwide Christian family.

If you live in the Parish of St Chad’s (Shrewsbury town centre, Kingsland and Porthill) the baptism can take place here. If you do not live in the parish but have a close pastoral connection with St Chad’s or regularly attend services here, then it is possible the baptism can take place at St Chad’s. However, if you do not live in the parish, and have no such connection, you will need to see your local parish priest about baptism, as it is important that the baptism takes place in a church community with which you will have the opportunity for an ongoing connection.

In baptism of a child you are coming to church to give thanks to God and to start your child on the journey of faith. You should choose Godparents (who must have been baptised themselves) who can support you in that commitment. If you decide after discussion with us that you wish to go ahead with baptism at St Chad’s, we commit ourselves to support you and to encourage you to bring up your child in the family of the Church.

Please contact the church office (01743 365478) to discuss the baptism further.
